A new book entitled The Beckham Experiment: How the World’s Most Famous Athlete Tried to Conquer America is being released on July 14th. The book was written by Grant Wahl. What does the book have to do with Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes? Reportedly, there’s a whole chapter dedicated to the friendship between soccer star David Beckham and Tom Cruise.

According to the New York Daily news, David told Grant Wahl that Tom has influenced major decisions in his life since the two met in 2003.

He told the author that he and Tom talk most days of the weeks and that he takes his advice on nearly everything. His friendship with Tom even had something to do with the fact that they named their third son Cruz. For some reason, that never hit me! It makes sense now.

"I must admit, when [Victoria and I] met Tom, I remember turning around to Victoria and saying, ‘Cruise is a great name, but we could spell it different,’" Beckham told Wahl for the book, due from Crown Publishing on Tuesday. "And also, living in Spain, Cruz is spelled the way it is in Spanish. So that’s why we got it."

David may take Tom’s advice on just about everything, but one thing the two do not have in common is Scientology, although a lot of people have speculated that they do. Beckham has said that he has no interest in Tom’s faith.

"It’s something I respect, because Tom’s explained to me and Victoria what it’s all about. But he’s never turned around and said, ‘That is what you should be doing,’ because he would never do that. He and Katie have their beliefs … but me and Victoria have also got our own."
