According to TV Guide (see the scan here), JJ Abrams has been asked by Tom Cruise to return as the producer for “Mission Impossible 4“. Abrams was the director of Mission Impossible III, but hasn’t yet committed as directing the fourth installment.

In the TV Guide article, Abrams is quoted as saying “Tom and I have come up with a really cool idea we are pursuing” and “I am incredibly honored that Tom has invited me back as a producer on Mission Impossible 4″.
All we know so far about the film is that it’s slated for a 2012 release and that they are currently looking for a screenwriter.
